Art is created through the smell of paint, wood or other materials, through the haptics of „feeling“ surfaces and textures, through the sound of position, size and mass in space, the sound of the work of art, perhaps also by looking at it. We invite to experience the artworks and explore materials together.

Dr. Yana Prinsloo and Marlène Harles invite you to reflect on the current group exhibition Freund*innenschaft (friendship) from a feminist perspective. We focus on the significance that we attach to relationships beyond sexual and familial bonds. How do we evaluate and navigate relationships that do not primarily serve the purpose of reproduction? And what forms of care, support, and resistance can emerge from friendships? Together, we’ll explore this topic through the concepts of intimacy and memory. Part of the discussion is also our relationships with non-human entities, such as animals and plants.
Dr. Yana Prinsloo is a research associate in the Department of Theater Studies at the Institute for Film, Theater, Media, and Cultural Studies at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Her dissertation on labor and care practices in contemporary independent theater in Germany was written as part of her research for the interdisciplinary Collaborative Research Center 1482 “Human Differentiation” (2021–2024). From 2017 to 2021, she worked as an editor producing special programs, television segments, and online features for the 3sat cultural program Kulturzeit. As a freelance host, she has worked for the Hessische Landeszentrale für politische Bildung and the Frauenreferat Wiesbaden, among others.

The tours Mainz – Postcolonial want to give people in Mainz a new, different access to (their) city. The goal is to show that Mainz was involved in colonialism, to make its traces visible, and to sensitize people to its continuing effects.
The term postcolonial refers to the fact that colonialism is not merely a past era of conquest.
It is a system of power, oppression and exploitation whose structures exert influence on our present lives. In the Mainzer Neustadt are numerous examples, from street and place names such as Sömmerringplatz and Adenauer-Ufer to Mainzer Zollhafen, that we want to explore critically together.
The tours are being held in German.
