Things are entangled in all currents of the lifeworld. Often, we only become aware of them when they suddenly fall apart, spill, go bump in the night or when we drown in them. All these things. Everywhere. All the time. describes the desire to defy this overload.
More and more often, we wonder what it would be like to leave the physical world behind. To just be, without baggage, not perceiving
or thinking anything. But where would we be without things?
Things evoke memories, tell (his)stories, serve as orientation, as tools. Things manifest skill, indicate processes of perception and
action, capture time and serve as raw material for art production. The participating artists share a fundamental interest in getting to
the bottom of things. They deal with the relationship between body and tool, between form and material, machine and product, materiality
and trace, usefulness and sensation. The artists make us want to get involved with things, to perceive them beyond their apparent
meaning and function, despite living in a world in which the feeling of being overwhelmed is becoming ever stronger.
All these things. Everywhere. All the time. curated by Marlène Harles.
A catalogue will be published to accompany the exhibition.
The exhibition is being organised in cooperation with the Kunsthochschule Mainz.
